On January 21st I had the opportunity to visit Wolfhaven International in Tenino, WA. [GP:wolfhaven]
Wolfhaven’s Mission is to promote wolf conservation by:
- protecting wild wolves
- providing sanctuary for captive-born wolves (raising a wolf yourself is a VERY BAD idea)
- promoting wolf restoration in historic ranges (now focusing on the Red Wolf and Mexican wolf)
- educating the public on the value of wolves and all wildlife
The day I was there was wet, cloudy and cold so there was only a small group gathered for the 1pm tour. The pictures below show some of the wolves and the group on the tour. The highlight of the tour was towards the end when all the wolves began howling. It was awesome. The howling began with a single wolf somewhere far outside the tour area and within seconds had spread across the sanctuary.
I also made a short iPod compatible movie of the tour that includes the howl, and I captured the sounds of the howl in an mp3 file.
