Between north San Jose and the San Francisco bay lies the small town of Alviso. The marina area has been turned into a county park. The word “marina” barely applies, since silting has pretty much filled in the entire area with mud. Todays walk was indeed very short, but I plan to follow up with a longer blog entry and many more pictures of the town of Alviso.
For Google Earth users, here is a KMZ file with way points and associated pictures.
The first picture is of an old houseboat located just outside the marina that has been high and dry for quite awhile.
Springtime is time for poppys all over the south bay.
A couple of visitors walking on the boardwalk over the marina.

There were lots of squirrels running around the area.

An Amtrak train heading across the bay. The engine was pushing the cars heading eastward (right to left in this picture) towards Drawbridge.

Below is a view looking through the grass at some folks walking their dogs on the boardwalk.

While I was walking around this older gentleman came riding through the parking lot on a funny looking folding bike.

Below is a view from the parking lot towards the town.

Additional Notes:
The pictures in this blog were geocoded and the Google Earth kmz file was created with RoboGEO.
Update: The following weekend I was able to spend time walking around the town of Alviso. My photos from that trip are available as my Walking Around Alviso set on Flickr.

That houseboat snap is wild! And I love the California Poppies… I grew up near there (sort of: Palo Alto) and never knew about the place. Thanks for opening my eyes with your post. This is the first time I’ve visited your blog and will stop back sometime to see what else you’ve discovered!
